Project
2500: A Call to Action to Save Lives from Hepatitis B Across 5 Nigerian States
A silent epidemic is sweeping through our
communities, claiming lives completely unnoticed. According to the World Health
Organization's latest 2026 Global Hepatitis Report, Nigeria now carries the third-largest Hepatitis burden in the entire
world, accounting for a staggering share of global deaths from liver
complications.
We
cannot sit back and watch.
Today,
Blessed Medical Aid Foundation (BMAF) is launching Project 2500
A grassroots intervention to provide free Hepatitis
B screenings and administer 2,500 life-saving vaccines across 5 states in
Nigeria (500 doses per state). We
are calling on our local readers, corporate partners, and the global Diaspora
to help us fund this mission.
Why 2,500 Vaccines? The 4 Most Critical Reasons to Act Now
If you are wondering why we must prioritize this
specific intervention today, here are the four most urgent, data-backed
reasons:
1. It is a Silent Killer with Zero Early Symptoms
Hepatitis B attacks the liver aggressively, but it
is known as a "silent killer" because millions of infected Nigerians
feel completely healthy. By the time symptoms like severe fatigue or jaundice
appear, irreversible damage has already occurred. Massive screening and
immediate vaccination are the *only* ways to protect vulnerable populations
before it is too late.
2. Prevention of Terminal Liver Cancer and Cirrhosis
Chronic Hepatitis B is the leading cause of liver
failure, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) in
Africa. Treatment for terminal liver cancer is prohibitively expensive and
largely inaccessible in rural Nigeria. However, the Hepatitis B vaccine is over 95% effective in preventing the
infection entirely, making it a highly cost-effective shield against cancer.
3. Breaking the Intergenerational Cycle (Mother-to-Child)
One of the primary ways Hepatitis B spreads in Nigeria
is vertically from infected mothers to their infants during childbirth. By
taking this vaccination drive directly into 5 states, we will target women of
childbearing age and youth, effectively breaking the chain of transmission and
protecting the next generation of Nigerian children.
4. Rural Communities Are Heavily Underserved
While major teaching hospitals in urban centers like
Lagos offer testing, millions of Nigerians in rural communities and smaller
hubs have zero access to affordable vaccines. Our target states will focus
heavily on reaching marginalized, grassroots populations who have been entirely
left behind by mainstream healthcare infrastructure.
The Execution Plan: 5 States, 2,500 Shields
Our deployment logistics are mapped out to ensure
absolute transparency and maximum community impact:
The
Target: 500 vulnerable individuals vaccinated per state.
The
Process: Every individual will undergo a mandatory rapid
screening test first. Those who test negative will receive their complete
vaccine doses, while those who test positive will be linked directly to medical
counseling and care.
How You Can Help: Support Project 2500
We cannot do this alone. Whether you are a corporate
organization looking to fulfill your social responsibility, a member of the
Diaspora looking to protect home health, or a local citizen, your financial
support will buy a vaccine vial and save a real life.
